One of the oldest traditional holidays risks to be buried for ever. In the past, the date of February 24 was the day when girls and boys" used to influence "Dragobete", in order to be in love for the rest of the year. Many traditions have found their end. For many people, February 24 has no more special significance.
In the last years, the local "Dragobete" might be definitely forgotten, the holiday being replaced by Valentine's Day, which has no connection with the Romanian spirituality. On February 24, when Orthodoxy celebrates "The Finding of the Head of Saint John the Baptist", the popular spirituality celebrates "Dragobete", the god of youth within the local Pantheon, the patron of love and cheerfulness.
